How to Recognize a godly Man

Fight the Lord’s battles.

  • 1 Samuel 18:17.  “…I will give her to you for a wife.  Only be valiant for me and fight the LORD’S battles.”

A man who loves and is devoted to the cause and purpose of God.

  • Matthew 6:10  “Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

A godly covenant man who takes that covenant seriously and walks in obedience.

  • Deuteronomy 28:1-2  “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you on high above all the nations of the earth.  And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God.”

A man with no desire for his own glory.

  • 2 Corinthians 10:17  “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord”.
  • Romans 11:36  “For from him and through him and to him are all things.  To him be glory forever.  Amen.”

A man with uncommon courage and backbone who loves liberty.

  • Deuteronomy 31:6  “Be strong and courageous.  Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you”.
  • Psalm 31:24  “Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!”
  • James 1:25  “But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”

A man on God’s mission.

  • Luke 12:31  “Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you”.

A visionary who is going places.

  • Habakkuk 2:2  “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”

A tested, tried and proven man.

  • James 1:12  “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”
  • 2 Timothy 2:15  “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”

A man on pursuit of righteousness.

  • 2 Timothy 2:22  “So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”

A prayer warrior and Biblical scholar studious in the Word of God.

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:17  “Pray without ceasing.”
  • 2 Timothy 2:15  “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
  • Psalm 119:11  “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”

A man who diligently lives his life under Biblical authority and covering.

  • Deuteronomy 6:17  “You shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you.”

A man who is an imitator of Christ and an imitator of what is good.

  • Ephesians 5:1  “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.”
  • 3 John 1:11  “Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good.  Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.”

A man with Kingdom agenda whose knee is reserved for the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

  • Romans 14:11  “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”
  • Ephesians 3:14  “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father.”
  • Luke 19:13  Calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them, “Engage in business until I come”.
  • Luke 12:31  “Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you”.

A man of godly character and integrity.

  • Proverbs 20:7  “The righteous who walks in his integrity – blessed are his children after him!”
  • Romans 5:3-4  “More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.”

A man that soweth to the Spirit.

  • Galatians 6:7-8  “Do not be deceived:  God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.  For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”


A man with a teachable heart and spirit.

  • Psalm 27:11  “Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a level path…”
  • 2 John 1:9  “Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God.  Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.”

A God fearing man who delights in the commands of the Lord.

  • Psalm 112:1-2  “Praise the Lord!  Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in his commandments!  His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.”
  • Deuteronomy 6:5-9  “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

A man who has God at the center of all things.

  • Exodus 20:3  “You shall have no other gods before me”.
  • Psalm 146:1  “Praise the LORD!  Praise the LORD, O my soul!  I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.”
  • 1 Chronicles 16:11  “Seek the LORD and his strength; seek His presence continually!”

A man of faithfulness.

  • Luke 16:10  “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.”

A man with a servant heart.

  • John 13:14  “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.”
  • Psalm 100:2  “Serve the Lord with gladness!  Come before His presence with singing!”
  • Joshua 24:14  “Now therefore, fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness…”

A man who loves God, life and loves you.

  • Matthew 22:37  And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
  • John 13:34-35  “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another:  just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.  By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
  • Joshua 23:11  “Be very careful, therefore, to love the LORD your God.”
  • Colossians 3:19  “Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.”
  • 1 Peter 3:10  For “whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit”.

A man whose intentions are pure.

  • 1 Peter 1:22  “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart.”
  • Philippians 4:8  “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

A man of equal yoking.

  • 2 Corinthians 6:14  “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.  For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness?  Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”

A man who recognizes the high office of womanhood and motherhood.

  • Proverbs 31

A man who will love you and cherish you as Christ loves the church.

  • Ephesians 5:25; 28; 33
  • v25 “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
  • v28 “In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies.  He who loves his wife loves himself.”
  • v33 “However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

A man who needs and wants your help.

  • Genesis 2:18  Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
  • 1 Corinthians 11:8-9  “For man was not made from woman, but woman from man.  Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.”

A provider.

  • 1 Timothy 5:8  “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”

A man who will honor you and who lives with you in an understanding way.

  • 1 Peter 3:7  “Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.”

A man who will take up the role of headship in the home.

  • Ephesians 5:23  ”For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.”

A man who will seek and take counsel.

  • Proverbs 15:22  “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.”
  • Proverbs 11:14  “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”

A man of lowly spirit who lays down his life.

  • Proverbs 29:23  “One’s pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.”
  • Colossians 3:3  “For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

A family man who will be a leader and will lead you and your children sacrificially.

  • Genesis 1:28  And God blessed them.  And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

A man who will rule his future house well.

  • 1 Timothy 3:4  “He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive.”


A man who is skilled.

  • 2 Chronicles 2:7  “So now send me a man skilled to work in gold, silver, bronze, and iron, and in purple, crimson, and blue fabrics, trained also in engraving to be with the skilled workers who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.”

A man who is forgiving.

  • Matthew 6:14  “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
  • Colossians 3:13  “bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.”
  • Luke 6:37  “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.”


A man who commits his ways to the Lord.

  • Psalm 37:5  “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.”


A man who is self-controlled.

  • Proverbs 25:28  “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.”


A man with a giving heart.

  • 2 Corinthians 9:7  “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
  • Luke 6:38  “Give, and it will be given to you.  Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap.”


A man who won’t prematurely awaken love until it’s evident that God’s purpose is to make you one flesh.

  • Genesis 2:24  “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
